Kyiv was where all of it started. Back in 2007, a 19-year old me hopped on a sleeper train from Warsaw to Kyiv to take part in a workcamp in a nearby town of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky. To be honest, I was a bit scared, because I thought I was going to the wild wild East.
Yes, you can take a good laugh break now.
I loved the workcamp. Choosing it was a bit of a hit and miss game, and, well, it turned out great. These two weeks have greatly influenced so many decisions I made in the years to come.
Most importantly, it has inspired me to travel extensively through the region. It was much less trendy back then that it appears now, and I’m glad I followed the path.
I don’t understand why I took a decade to return the Ukrainian capital, but I’m delighted I did it this year.
I’m not sure how to explain it, but while I feel the country and its people are struggling, their capital is thriving. I hope I was able to capture it on my camera to inspire you to go, too.
Long story short, Kyiv is awesome, and there is no reason not to be in love with it.
Photos will tell you the rest.
